Lexington and the LA Zoo's California Condor Rescue Zone

Just opened in October, Lexington technically designed and fabricated exhibits and interactives for the new California Condor Rescue Zone at the Los Angeles Zoo. This adventure play experience gives children an appreciation of this amazing bird, the threats they face in the wild, and how the zoo is helping to save them from extinction.

Lexington brought its vast experience with children’s museums and play spaces to the project and was a key team member in its development. This non-traditional learning space offers children the opportunity to create their own leaning experience through hands-on play.

The California Condor Rescue Zone allows children to experience what it’s like to be the largest flying bird in North America. Kids can put on a “condor suit” and find food and areas to nest. Kids can assume the role of a field biologist, climbing a rock wall while searching for a remote nesting site.

In the veterinary lab guests can operate on plush condor chicks, and experience three interactive video kiosks learning about the Condors both in the wild and in captivity. Included in the audio video experience are three cameras which give the kids the ability to navigate by joystick and zoom buttons, observing the Condor facility located remotely at the top of the L.A. Zoo grounds.
